Lung Cancer does not discriminate!
We all know the association between smoking and lung cancer, it has been ingrained in our brains for many decades now, but were you also aware that more and more people these days are being diagnosed with lung cancer who have NEVER smoked? Well, it is true in fact young, other wise healthy, non-smoking women are the fastest growing segment of the population being diagnosed with lung cancer. Thanks to biomarker testing we are learning more about gene mutations in cancer especially lung cancer, however because of the stigma of smoking that is attached to it lung cancer receives only a fraction of funding for research. There is no routine screening if you are younger and a non-smoker so early detection is not happening, making it the leading cause of death from cancer in both men and women. More so than breast, colon and prostate cancer combined. Please make yourself aware of these facts and If you have one or more of these symptoms: shortness of breath, hoarse voice, persistent cough, pain in the upper back or a lump or bump near your collar bone get it checked out and if symptoms persist demand an x-ray or better yet a low dose CT scan, it could just save your life! Without discriminating against smokers we must get the word out that non smokers can and do get lung cancer too!
