I'm 5 year cervical cancer survivor that plans to enjoy life and looking forward to having grandkids
Hi! My name is Aimee and I’m a cervical cancer survivor. I was diagnosed 1b1 and underwent rh. They removed all signs of cancer, however, I had many complications from the surgery. Short story, I ended up with 2 nephrostomies, colostomy, abdominal drain and a urinary catheter. In total, I had 5 bags hanging off of me. I had a vesicovaginal and a rectovaginal fistulas. I was in the hospital every few weeks because of infections. I was in ICU with septic shock at one point. I came close to dying 3 times. I had to wait 6 months before they could try surgery to fix everything. I went from 130 lbs to 100. I was eventually given a feeding tube because I couldn’t eat. My urologist was brave enough to try a surgery that had never been done before, and other urologists weren’t willing to try. I had to give consent for a permanent colostomy and an urostomy in case the surgery didn’t work. When I awoke from the surgery, I had no urostomy and was told that in 4 months I could have my colostomy reversed. I was out of work and going through surgeries for a year. I missed both my daughters proms, and I almost missed my daughter’s graduation. I still have problems, but no bags and no cancer! I’m working with an urogynocologist for urinary incontinence and I take meds for chronic constipation. I’m also on chronic pain meds because of all the adhesions from so many surgeries. I’m a 5 year survivor that plans to enjoy life and am looking forward to having grandkids!
