Diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma at age 9. Still suffering from limited jaw mobility
Hello brain gang! I’m Kasey, almost 34. I was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma at age 9. I was told I had six months to live. The next day I was sent to Milwaukee for emergency surgery for a partial resection. I then underwent radiation therapy, followed by intense chemo treatments. I lived in the hospital for over 7 months but surpassed the 6 month expiration date they gave me…now going on 24 years! I have tons of health anomalies but am happy to be alive. I’m the same height I was when I was first diagnosed, at age 9. My pituitary doesn’t function normal due to radiation, so I never reached puberty naturally. No feeling on the right side of my face where tumor was, loss of vision in right eye. Hearing loss. Radiation turned jaw muscles to scar tissue, resulting in a very limited opening. Not having sensation and radiation directly to my right side caused tooth decay, leading to tooth extraction to the majority of my teeth on the right side. Still suffer from very limited jaw mobility; chewing is difficult and speaking is troublesome.
