7 Inspirational Stage 4 Cancer Survivor Stories


Stage 4 or Metastatic cancer spreads to other parts of the body and is generally considered most painful. As per various researches and studies by different cancer research centers – unfortunately, the survival rate of stage 4 cancer is lowest but that doesn’t mean you should lose hope and accept cancer as your death sentence!

Since last year, CancerBro is working to spread the words of inspiration and motivation through powerful cancer survivor stories. These stories are shared by amazing people who achieved their goals even after being diagnosed with cancer. Today, we will share cancer survivor stories of people who were diagnosed with stage 4 or terminal cancer and yet despite all biggest hindrances didn’t allow cancer to take control of their lives

Stage 4 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma survivor now certified personal fitness trainer and motivational speaker

Mike Maldonado is a personal fitness trainer and motivational speaker. At the age of 4, he suffered from Type 1 Diabetes and when he was 13 he fell into diabetic coma. A few years later, he was diagnosed with stage 4 Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2009 when he experienced unrelenting cough and significant weight loss.

Being diabetic surfaced many problems in his treatment and recovery plan. His biggest motivation to fight stage 4 cancer was support from his family, friends, and loved ones.

Despite his aggressive form of cancer and hindrances due to being diabetic, he continued his passion for fitness and is now a fitness trainer and motivational public speaker.

2. Stage 4 Lymphoma survivor shares her journey to inspire others

Becky was diagnosed with stage 4 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in October 2017 after being sick for months. In her cancer journey, she was first diagnosed with asthma but later it was revealed as metastatic Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. She was relieved to hear the treatment plan – she received 12 rounds of chemotherapy over 24 weeks.

Due to chemotherapy she lost her blond hair and suffered from cancer related fatigue. When asked about her motivation to fight cancer, she described “Life” to be the biggest factor. Also, the support of her family, friends, and boyfriend played a major role in her recovery.

3. Stage 4 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma survivor tells her motivational journey

Shanee Wilson was diagnosed with stage 4 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in January 2017 after being hospitalized for 36 days. In hospital, she went through negative tests, three biopsies, and a surgery before being diagnosed.

She describes her journey to be the scariest, most uncertain and uncomfortable time of her life. She questioned her faith as she used to live on a healthy diet and was never even hospitalized before. These thoughts are common to every person who fights against cancer but she kept her faith in God to stay positive and build a better version of herself.

4. Stage 4B Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma survivor says “Just Do It!”

Daynah was diagnosed with stage 4B Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma at the age of 21. The tumor was found to be in her brain and chest (12.5 cm). She describes self acceptance as the difficult part during her journey. First, the acceptance of being diagnosed with cancer. Second, the appearance, new body limitations, and lastly the acceptance of life after cancer.

Her inspiration to kick cancer out of her life was when she saw how her loved ones were being affected by her diagnosis. She conveys a strong and positive message to other patients that it is very much doable to survive stage 4 cancer. Also, she says that it is scary but it will make you even stronger person that you would ever possibly know.

5.Stage 4 Melanoma Survivor Writes a Book to Share Her Story

Julie Randall was diagnosed with stage 4 Melanoma after she suffered a sudden brain seizure at her workplace. After hearing the news, she was in great shock and doctors told her that there is not much time left. She describes it as, “being hit over the head by a hammer”.

She went through chemotherapy to buy her some more time. Her biggest motivation to stay alive was her teenage daughters. She promised them that she will live even if she has been diagnosed with terminal cancer. And, fortunately she kept her promise. Right now, she is 6 years cancer free now. She also wrote a book Patient_71 to describe her experiences.

6. Stage 4 Lymphoma Survivor Now An Art Student

Jailyne was diagnosed with stage 4 Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 20th April 2016. She was diagnosed at a very young age and her treatment was started in Texas Oncology in Weslaco at the age of 18. She is now a year out of transplant and she is still treating fungal pneumonia.

Her biggest motivation to defeat cancer was to live her full life and pursue her passion for art. She is now an Art Major at the University of Houston.

She had so many complications and relapses in her journey. Due to ongoing treatment, she also had to drop out of college when she was doing her major in music as a trumpet player. Her message to other cancer fighters is to “Trust the process” and never lose hope.

7. Stage 4 Cervical Cancer Survivor Says Never Give Up

Zhenia Rubia was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cervical cancer called Glassy Cell Carcinoma in November 2016. She was diagnosed lately and by the time her oncologist diagnosed the tumor, it has already been spread to her reproductive system and chest.

She describes her own mind to be the biggest hindrance in her journey. The thoughts of not being able to give birth to a child were consuming her. But her faith and family gave her the much-needed motivation to fight cancer.
